Why did Private Reiben want to abandon the mission? Do you agree with his decision? Why or why not?3/10/2016

Private Reiben wanted to leave the mission because he didn't think it was necessary that 2 of their men had already given their life just to bring 1 guy home. Private Reiben didn't feel it necessary to give his life too just to bring a guy home. I don't agree with why he would leave because they should bring Private Ryan home because their family have already given two lives for the war and that should be enough for one family to bear.

He wanted to abandon the mission because two people already died trying to save a persons life that they didn't even know if he was dead or alive. If he was dead an they did all of that for nothing lost two people for nothing then it wouldn't of be worth it. But it's hard to agree and disagree because I think it's a personal opinion honestly. If you actually cared about Ryan or felt bad for his mom and him because he lost all of his brothers an he was the only one alive and you didn't want his mother hurting anymore then you should disagree and save him other wise if you think losing two peoples lives is worth saving one person or maybe even more depending on if you found him or you have to keep searching then you should agree. But I think it's based on personal opinions.

Although what private Reuben has been through is understandable to the audience, but not following orders is not an excuse he acknowledged the consequences when he signed up for the army. During times of war, following orders can make a difference between life or death and Reubens abandonment of the mission could have been one of the most selfish actions during times of war.

I somewhat agree with you. Is it not fair to say, though, that when a soldier knows a mission is b.s, that he can decided on his own whether it is worth his life and many others? Reiben was tired of losing his family (in the film it is implied that a brotherhood is formed in a group of guys who have been through thick and thin together in the war) for one guy he barely knew.

Reiben believed that a mission to find one soldier, which led to the death of two other soldiers, was pointless because two lives is more important than one. Caparzo and wade were killed in a mission to find one soldier which wasn't neccesary in winning the war.

Reiben thought that the mission was worthless. It would not help win the war and thought that if they kept going more people in their squad would die.

Reiben wants to abandon the mission because when he ways the price of private Ryan's life against the lives of the men they have and will lose, it is not worth it and he leaves. I think if I were in his position I would do the same or at least object but I would say I would because I think they should save Ryan for his mom because I don't have the experience to make the decision.
