What is the significance of the Edith Piaf song the soldiers were listening to?

The significance of the Edith Piaf song the soldiers were listening to was important because in the song she sings about her love that left her and how she misses him. The soldiers were able to figure this out because Upham could translate it, but since they fighred out what she was singing about it made them think about the things they love. It made the soldiers think about their wives, children, families, and other things back home that they loved. When they thought about certain things they loved, they began to remember specific memories of the things they loved that made them keep fighting and staying alive in order to be able to return to them one day.

Along with this, I feel the song could be sang from the homeland of the soldiers to them. Saying that if the soldiers die in the war the home country would still remember them, they would see their faces everywhere, and certainly see them in dreams (PTSD of other soldiers, dreams of families.) This is, in my opinion, reassuring the soldiers their deaths would not be forgotten.

The song was very melancholy and depressing, similar to how the soldiers were feeling inside, knowing there was a great battle to come that some of them would not survive. However the song seemed to bring out memories and tales from the soldiers, which helped them get their minds off the upcoming skirmish.

It makes the team think about how depressing the war can be and how losing someone close to you is one of the wosst pains in the world

The song helped remind them of their family, it reminded them who they are fighting for, for their family. It also helped them relate cause the tempo and lyrics were slow, and depressing like the time the soldiers were in. It just lifted the soldiers spirits up a little to become stronger and remind them who they are and who they were there for, and who they were protecting.

I agree with Lainey in that the song sang by the French woman, Edith Piaf reminded the soldiers of their families and what they were fighting for. Because of how Upham was translating for them, and which she sang about how she misses her lost love. But I don't necessarily agree that the sing lifted their spirits, and made them stronger. It may of released a bit of their anxiety in the moment, but I don't think they felt any better about the situation.

It helped them remember the girls they use to date and it gave them something to talk about when they was waiting and it took their mind off of the war they was in and it also gave them what they need to return home safely and it just kept them going

I disagree with you Andrew, I feel there is a deeper meaning than to just have small talk with the other soldiers. The song gave them motivation. It helped the soldiers remanince about past memories. This drives them to complete their mission and get home so they may make more memories.

The song relates to most or all of the soldiers because they have somebody that they love and can relate to the song
