Why do you think Captain Miller won't tell anyone where he is from or details from his past?3/9/2016

I think he keeps details from his life because it is how he copes with being in the war. If he constantly reflects on the life he has waiting for him when the war is over, it might be difficult to continue the success he is having on his missions. This could take his focus away from doing the right thing for the war and instead doing the right thing for himself.

I think that he is not telling anyone about his past because he doesn't want them to become attached to him. So that if he does die there is no emotional connection he was just another one of the guys whose story was not important. I think he also does this so that he dosent have to hear about the others so that each time he loses a man it doesn't hurt as much. 3/9/2016 06:57:45 am
Miller doesn't tell anyone about himself because in war they tell you not to get attached to people, and he has shown that throughout the movie. But he doesn't tell people about himself because he doesn't want his men to feel lost without him and think that if he dies then they should abandon the mission or the cause.

Captain Miller probably might not mention his past because he might see it as a road block, it might keep him from what's happening in the moment. He might not talk about his life before because there are chances he won't make it and there's a possibility that he might only want to be remembered as a dedicated captain if he were to die during war.

I believe that captain. Miller does not share his personal information because it could make him vulnerable and hood make him weak. He does this to protect not only him, but his unit.

He doesn't share his past so that if he decides to put himself in a life threatening situation he wouldn't be held by the group because they are so attached to him

I think Captain Miller doesn't share where he is from because he might have had a rough life that forced him to be in the war, and he doesn't want to have the soldier sympathize over his past situation because in his mind that would distract them from reaching their objective.

I agree with this because I think that it might be a rough subject to openly share with the rest of the team. He even mentioned that he doesn't like to share information or "rant" to his team in his ranking position becaus that's not what a captian does. Therefore, making a joke in reference to Ophum bugging the others about their past and where they are from by exampling himself as a lower rank and sarcasm.

I think that captain Miller doesn't share personal information because he's in war and he knows he could very easily die on the battle field and the more the other officers know about him the more attached they become and in war there is no time to grieve someone you get close to so he prefers to distance himself

I think that Captain Miller might have been in another war and he is traumatized by what happened or what he saw

I think he doesn't share his information because he's a leader and his background doesn't matter in this time of war. I feel like if he wanted his troops to know he would tell them, it's war time nothing else matters but winning and saving private Ryan.

I believe that when Miller doesn't tell the men about himself, it's because he doesn't want them to worry about him during the war, or feel the need to protect him if they feel sorrow for him for a story he told. He does this so his men don't get attached to him, and so they are focused on the mission. While the men think this will be something to lighten the mood and to pass time, Miller thinks this would be a distraction, and the men won't have their eyes ready if something were to happen.

I feel that the captain doesn't share his background with anyone because he may of had a bad experience in his past life that really bothers him to reflect on. Telling the troops anything about himself will get their mind off tasks and possibly make them worry about their own lives back him. Think to yourself. Would you keep your life back home out of the discussion so you can move forward with dealing with the war? Do you wanna reminisce the memories you have during a war? Comments are closed.
