Essential Question -
HOW do artists create meaning in their artwork?
CRITICAL VOCAB
1. Found art - art created from undisguised, but often modified, objects or products that are not normally considered art, often because they already have a non-artfunction.
2. Junk art - a specific sub-genre of found art; these works primarily comprise components that have been discarded, often coming quite literally from the trash.
3. Combine - neither a painting nor a sculpture, but a hybrid of the two.
4. Pop Art - art movement that emerged in the mid-1950s in Britain and in the late 1950s in the United States. Pop art presented a challenge to traditions of fine art by including imagery from popular culture such as advertising, news, etc
5. Assemblage - a work of art made by grouping found or unrelated objects.
6. Merz - the combination, for artistic purposes, of all conceivable materials, and, technically, the principle of the equal distribution of the individual materials
7. Collage - a technique of composing a work of art by pasting on a single surfacevarious materials not normally associated with one another, asnewspaper clippings, parts of photographs, theater tickets, andfragments of an envelope.
